Sealents, Grouts and Powder Products

OVERVIEW

A Joint Sealing Compound must display good adhesion towards concrete and have the ability to withstand extension without cracking. It must also have a low susceptibility to flow during hot weather conditions. It should be durable and plastic, and at the time offer resistance to ingress of solid foreign matter. The filling up of joints with expansion joint filler itself is not enough to prevent the ingress of water. The top surface of the joints-construction, dummy as well as expansion joints are sealed with material which is waterproof as well as weather resistant. It has two grades such as RANSBITU-SEAL GRADE-A & RANSBITU-SEAL GRADE-B.The joint compound is heated to temperature which will permit easy pouring into the expansion joint above the joint filler. This temperature should be well below that at which the joint sealing compound undergoes decomposition and should not exceed temperature as specified against each grade of sealing compounds.

PROPERTIES

RANSBITU-SEAL is an ideal joint sealing compound having following properties-

  • It exhibits good adhesion to cement concrete.
  • It does not crack during expansion and contraction of slabs.
  • Its temperature susceptibility is low enough to prevent excessive flow during summer.
  • It is durable and plastic and does not allow any foreign material to penetrate into the joints

GRADING INFO

RANSBITU-SEAL GRADE A – 1834/1984

It is ideal hot pour sealing compound specially rubberized to withstand cracking. Besides having good adhesion to concrete it is also durable and is not affected by temperature changes. It has a working temperature of 175˚c-185˚c and a density of 1020 kg. Per cubic meter

RANSBITU-SEAL GRADE B -1834/1984

RANS ENGINEERING & CHEMICALS offers a comprehensive range of products and services for most concrete and finishing needs. Please contact the RANS Technical Service Department or your local RANS agent for further information, samples, demonstrations and instructor services. The information given in this leaflet is based upon laboratory research, as well as extensive field work and application. All products are sold subject to standard conditions of sale which are available on request. This information is based on RANS present state of knowledge and is intended to provide general information on RANS’s products and their methods of use. The prospective user is recommended to determine the suitability of RANS’s suggestions and products before adopting them on a commercial scale.

It is unaffected by petrol spillage especially jet fuel. It is therefore recommended for use in garages, filling stations etc., where there is spillage of petrol, oil and grease. It has a working temperature of 155˚c-165˚c and a density of 1200 kg per cubic meter. On application of this product RANSBITU/JET-PMR is to see that primer has sufficiently dried prior to pouring of RANSBITU-SEAL into the joint.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE

  • Every possible precaution should be taken to ensure that the joints are clean and free from debris and other foreign matter at the time of laying and during the curing process.
  • The primer is applied cold either by a spraying machine or by brush.(primers are inflammable and should not be place near a named flame)
  • The sealing compound should be heated to the working temperature in a suitable heater, and transferred to a meter-pourer of suitable design, if available for pouring

USAGE OF SEALING COMPOUND AND PRIMER

RANSBITU-PMR: the consumption, for 25 mm depth of joint would be one liter for 80 running meter   length

RANSBITU-SEAL GRADE A & GRADE B AS PER IS-1834/1984

The quantity of joint sealing compound required per 100 metre of running joint per 25 mm depth with various thickness in kilos is indicated below

Grade A           Grade B

9.5 mm thickness                        30 kg                 35 kg

12.0 mm thickness                      40 kg                 48 kg

18.0 thickness                              60 kg                 70 kg

25.0 mm thickness                      82 kg                 95 kg

Wash all the tools and tackles with industrial solvent immediately after the application is completed

CONSTRUCTION AND CONTRACTION JOINTS

In concrete pavements and runways it is normal practice to provide butt joints with sealing groove 19 mm in width at the top in order to facilitate the placing of the concrete

DUMMY JOINTS

Are provided at regular intervals to control the cracking of concrete which results from the construction of concrete on setting, Normally 19mm width joints extending to depth equal to one third the slab thickness, are provided.

PRECAUTION:

Hot only the required quantity of material, which can be utilized within stipulated pot life to avoid solidification.

HEALTH & SAFETY

Avoid prolonged contact with eyes and skin. For detailed information refer to relevant material safety data sheet.
